Helen Giblin graduated from the School of Architecture, University College Dublin in 1977. She has spent the last 30 years in private practice. She is a fellow of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland and a member of the American Institute of Architects. She has a diploma in Project Management from Trinity College Dublin.

She joined A & D Wejchert, Architects in 1981, where she worked on the award winning Anco Training Centre at Loughlinstown after working initially in Edinburgh for Basil Spence Glover and Ferguson. Subsequently worked with a number of practices in Ireland, UK and Boston, USA before returning to A & D Wejchert in 1995. She was project architect on Smithfiled Village, an innovative inner city mixed use development. She has a particular interest in urban design and in integrating old with new as in Smithfield, Dublin and the Old Papermill in Jeziorna, Poland. She is the partner in charge of the practice’s conservation accreditation.

She has expertise in Healthcare, and is familiar with all aspect, both primary and acute. She was project architect on the €60 million development at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown and on many acute and primary care projects, including those relating to disability and training, as in special schools, in the private and public spheres.

Helen believes a well designed and therapeutic environment assists the healing process and this is a given in commissions carried out by the practice. A bespoke building designed with care conveys instantly to patients the care and attention that the healthcare provider offers. It is attractive and easily managed by staff.

The commitment of the practice to low energy and green design extends to healthcare and under her direction is now a standard feature in all healthcare buildings.

She joined the American Institute of Architects European chapter in 1995 and is a past member of the Board.
