Patrick Fletcher graduated in 1975 with an Honours B.Arch Degree from University College Dublin. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland and a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects He joined A. & D. Wejchert & Partners in 1975, was made an Associate in 1984 and Partner in 1999.
His work in A & D Wejchert has mostly been related to educational and commercial buildings as well as a number of private houses. He concentrates in designing and delivering buildings which provide the best palces to work and to learn. His main interests are sustainability and low energy design – he was Partner in charge of The Waterford Institute of Technology Library, which won the Minister for Environment’s Sustainability 2000 Award, the Nurse Education Building which won a Green Good Design Award in 2009 and the Tourism and Leisure Building which won a Green Good Design Award in 2011.
More recently he has been involved in a winning consortium in PPP Schools Bundles 1 and 2 and was team leader for schools in Banagher, Portlaoise completed in 2010 and Kildare and Athboy to be completed in 2011.
Among other projects for which he was responsible are; Beresford Court for Irish Life, Offices at Platin for Irish Cement, The O’Rahilly Building Phases I & II for University College Cork; The Information Technology Building and Canteen for Waterford Institute of Technology, The Robert Schuman and Kathleen Lonsdale Buildings for University of Limerick and Community Schools at Brookfield Tallaght, Youghal and Castleknock and Primary schools in Dalkey and Ranelagh, Dublin.
Patrick develops a close working relationship with all client bodies and their representatives. He believes that good communication throughout with the client, design and procurement teams are essential.
Patrick was a member of the RIAI Competence Task Force which defined the role of the architect leading up to Registration and currently serves on the RIAI Design for Education and Procurement Committees. He was project architect on the ITE Media Business Centre, Warsaw and partner-in-charge of the ITI Group HQ Building in Cracow. Patrick was involved as architectural assessor of the Glasnevin Centenary Chapel project.
Patrick is joint Managing Director of A & D Wejchert & Partners with David Lanigan.
