Ballyfermot & Palmerstown Primary Care & Mental Health Centre Project provides healthcare services to the south-west Dublin community of Ballyfermot. The building is three stories high and is 3900 sqm in area. All services are readily accessible from the central concourse, with secure open air terraces provided for clients use at the upper levels. Materials used are a pale creamy brick with red rain-screen cladding.
The Primary Care Centre and its neighbour St Vincent’s ECDS face each other across a small open square, accessed directly from the road by pedestrians and cyclists. The design of the building is multi storey to achieve a civic presence on the road. The Health Centre, located on the north west corner, forms an L around a small courtyard and helps screen the remainder of the site from traffic and prevailing wind.
The site forms a triangle bounded by roads on two sides and by the rear garden of houses on the third side. Care is taken in orientation, privacy, noise attenuation and daylight levels in rooms to ensure therapeutic and good working conditions.
