This house is located in the grounds of Adare Manor. The house consists of a number of interlocking forms and this gives a house form which resembles a “village” of human scaled forms. It integrates the roofs, walls, fenestration, chimneys and this results in reducing the overall massing of the house.
Internally a sense of transparency and openness is achieved by the atrium, and also by means of the plan layout where spaces flow into each other, by using transparent glass floors and balustrades in the atrium, by having tall floor to ceiling heights throughout, and by using sliding doors where possible.
To promote sustainability the design allows for sunshine and daylight to penetrate the house via the glass roofed atrium from dawn till dusk, windows are carefully orientated to maximize daylight throughout the house, the house uses natural renewable materials, and has high insulation values and natural ventilation to minimize heating and/or cooling requirements.
