In an attempt to design an economical house and yet taking full advantage of the spectacular site, the proposed solution gives superb 360 degree views and supplementary natural sunlight all year round for the principal accommodation which will be used throughout the year. The part of the house for short-term visits is totally adequate but the views and orientation are more selective.
The higher floor level consists of kitchen, dining room and living room – in an open plan, within which the entrance lobby and utility room are sub-divided. Views and natural light comes here from the north, west and south – with an extra boost from the roof light. Two bedrooms at this level with two bathrooms are facing north-east and south-east.
Four bedrooms below are facing north and south. Space divisions are achieved by storage units, as a principal.
The space order is established by four columns, centrally located within a square plan of 12x12 metres.These columns act as a light shaft crowned with a square roof light over, and the staircase set at the base, connecting the elevated level with the lower level.
