Knock House provides accommodation for 120 pilgrims to Knock Shrine with a total of 68 ensuite rooms, and with Restaurant and Conference facilities.
The hotel is designed on two stepped levels as a result of the site configuration, with vehicular access at each level, and this allows for ‘open access’ for disabled and able pilgrims alike.
The elongated, gently curved form and low profile of the building is designed in harmony with the configuration of the site and with full respect to the tall Knock Basilica, from which it is separated by a dense evergreen tree belt.
Knock House is designed to be “on axis” with the Basilica spire, and a special high level window in the Reception / Foyer reveals the view of the Basilica spire and reminds visitors of the spiritual nature of this location.
The materials used externally, namely local limestone, painted plaster, with natural slate roof, also reflect the particular nature of the location, as do the building’s interiors, which are designed to be comfortable, simple and restrained, and to enable the visitor to focus on the spiritual origins of Knock.
